In general there will be two classifications for the applicant to consider. First is the commissioned minister (licensed). This is the entry level for people just beginning their following of the call to ministry. Commissioned ministers will not have the authority to perform legal ceremonies such as marriage. Some will not require anything more to perform the work that God has set before them. Second will be that of the Ordination Candidate. This is the entry level for those to whom the ministry will become their primary focus in life. First year ordination candidates will not have the authority to perform legal ceremonies such as marriage. The candidate for ordained status will be required to complete an approved course of leadership education as well as meeting the covenantal requirements of all commisioned ministers. . Please Note: Upon your being accepted as a commissioned minister you will be required a one time administration fee of $20 to cover the cost of producing your first year credentials. Below are some additional points of clarification. |
- You must be of legal age to apply for licensure (18 years)
- You need to understand that you are not going to be licensed or ordained "ONLINE". You will only be applying online. Many states today will not recognize any online or "immediate" licenses/ordinations granted for ministry. This is becoming a national standard. We praise God for this action.
- You will be required to uphold the covenant you are under with this licensure.
This covenant is triune in that it is between the commissioned minister, UCMI and is avowed before almighty God.
- You will be required to adhere to the Code of Ethics for ministers.
- You will be under accountability to this Association, UCMI and the ecclesiastical body of this ministry.
- Ordination candidates will be required to seek ministry education if they have not already obtained it. Continuing education is the mark of the disciple (student). This can be through our Institute or any other acceptable source.
- Under the Association you may hold more than one ministry license from other sources. This will not be allowed when you seek full ordained status with UCMI.
- You will be required to give an annual report of your ministry upon renewal of your license. (forms are provided)

Covenantal Giving Commitment Explained |
- You will be expected to be a covenantal supporter (financial) of UCMI. This is a biblical covenant. Giving to your local church does not support UCMI in any way. Once you are licensed (commissioned) you are no longer laity but have entered the commissioned leadership level of ministry (clergy) and are under a different spiritual covering and directive than that of your local church. All commissioned ministers support their covering. It is both biblical and of necessity.
This fact does not replace your obligation to support your local church. In the New Testament we see many examples of the ministers & churches giving in support of their covering.
- The UCMI Ministerial Association will not make demands as to what your level of regular giving might be. This is left up to the leading of the individual minister. It is however important to note that if there is no record of any support for your covering, we will not be able to accept any renewal of your license. Your commitment to support your covering is a part of your covenantal agreement.
